Groom, Charley Genever’s debut spoken word theatre solo show. Told through personal narrative, lip syncing, a brief history of Little Mix, a loop station and some poems, Charley interrogates her own relationship with her body, control, and the maintenance of her aesthetic. If we only see ourselves through someone else’s eyes, what’s left?
Devised with and directed by Talia Randall.
Groom is in it’s third and final phase of development, after receiving two funding awards by Arts Council England to research and develop the show. The show explores viscerally and vulnerably her experiences of a patriarchal society, where she gazes inwards at her upbringing, her relationship with other women, her grooming routines, and intimate hook ups.
